In The Beginning…

Posted: April 21, 2007 at 10:44 am by neospyce

Hi. It’s me, your Blog Hobbyist (that’s all I could think of at the time I created this blog), aka neospyce. I mostly hard code my sites, but thought that I might try this blogging thing out. Not sure how impressed I am with it, because not being an expert with php and css, full control of the look and layout is hard to obtain, but I am working on it.

The objective of this blog is to publish helpful information on various topics that are useful if you like learning and tweaking your pc. Blogging is a quick, easy, and convenient medium for publishing the content. I really want for everyone who visits to leave with new knowledge or ideas. I really would like feedback on my posts in order to post relevant information that you as visitors would like access to.

So, off I go to find “stuff” to share with you…

My Most Awesomest Good News!! Yay For Me!

Posted: June 3, 2007 at 12:52 am by neospyce

Back in January this year, I went to ER and was consequently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (glucose 914) and kept in ICU for about a week to stabilize. My a1c was 12, i was discharged with instructions for 60 units of 70/30 twice a day, as well as sliding scale for secondary insulin and advised to check glucose 3 times a day at a minimum, along with a very strict diet ( which i am sure you all know all about :D). Well, today I am happy to report that I keep my sugar between 80 and 110 and never have to take the sliding scale dose. I do not exercise like I should, but I am also happy to report that with my lifestyle change since diagnosis, I have lost 16 pounds and still losing in a healthy manner. I am not fasting just eating less carbs and smaller more frequent meals. ( I used to eat medium size meals but only twice a day.) So, I am proud of myself and will continue on this path for the rest of my life. Thank you for reading this. My a1c in now 6.5

Posted: May 8, 2007 at 3:38 pm by neospyce

Hey, guys and gals! You just gotta check this out if you are a tekkie, tekkie history buff, nostalgia freak, or just like “out of the ordinary”! It’s an article on PCMag.com about the first 25 years of their publication. It’s really very interesting to read actual articles about what has considered state-of-the-art back years ago. Check it out and laugh as I did at what was considered a whopping memory of 256K. I couldn’t stop reading to fulfill my curiousity. Go look and Enjoy!

http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,1874,2067488,00.asp

Example Content in PCMag.com ’s 25 Anniversary Online Article:

This is Dave Bradley, he gave birth to Ctrl-Alt-Del

Dave Bradley - The Ctrl-Alt-Del Dude

And for all you Firefox fans, guess who? That’s right! Mitch Kapor!

Mozilla Foundation's Very Own Mitch Kapor

And Last, But Not Least: (To Catch Your Eye!)

25 Years of PC Magazine:

- In 1983…

  • Michael Jackson’s hair catches fire during the taping of a Pepsi commercial.
  • The 3.5-inch floppy disk debuts, soon supplanting the old 5.25-inch standard.
  • Geraldine Ferraro becomes the first woman to run for vice president.
  • Michael Dell founds Dell Computer in his dorm room at the University of Texas.
  • In New Delhi, India, Prime minister Indira Gandhi is assassinated by two of her bodyguards.
  • IBM unveils the PCjr, a low-cost system that would disappear from the market little more than 12 months later.
  • Ziff-Davis launches PCjr Magazine.
  • The Cosby Show premieres on NBC.
  • Sierra Entertainment releases the blockbuster PC game King’s Quest.
  • The U.S. Health Department announces the discovery of AIDS
  • Bill Gates appears on the cover of Time magazine.

Huh? Who’s Bill Gates? (JK!) Happy Reading!

Surfing for Vista Sidebar Gadgets, I happened upon an XM Radio Online Gadget. I went to check out the service that it was linked to, and…. I Am Totally Addicted! Awesome subscription for $7.99 per month. This is especially a Super Tool if you use the Windows Vista Sidebar Gadget for this service. It means no open media player or browser to use and easy on your resources. At the very least, try out their Trial Offer, no credit card required.

View SWF Files in Internet Explorer 7

Posted: May 6, 2007 at 2:26 am by neospyce

I have had issues with not being able to view particular .swf files in Internet Explorer 7. After almost a month of waiting for Adobe to answer my support ticket, I finally resolved the issue on my own. In my quest for a resolution, I found that many other people are experiencing the same problem. So, here are the steps that I took to completely resolve the problem on my pc.

Outsourcing - It Bites The Big One! Majorly!

Posted: May 3, 2007 at 5:27 pm by neospyce

What is “outsourcing”? It is foreign, cheaper, lower quality service and support. It robs American citizens of their livelihood and ability to support their family. This is just another sympton of America’s growing dependence on foreign nations. I refuse to purchase anymore products who outsources their services and support to foreign nations. Big offenders are computer and related technology manufacturers. If you feel strongly about my statement one way or another, then, please comment.

Ok, Firefox Wins Hands Down

Posted: May 2, 2007 at 12:52 am by neospyce

K, due to several issues with browsing, I was forced to download and install Firefox for testing reasons. Well, guess what? The issues that I experienced in IE 7 are not a problem with Firefox. In the past, I have vehemently refused to make the transition at everyone’s urging. But, and I cannot believe I am saying this, but, Firefox kicks ASS! It has come along way since it’s beginning, everything is much cleaner and displays as the site designer has intended. I am sold on Firefox.

Stop Griping About Windows Vista - For All You NaySayers…

Posted: April 26, 2007 at 7:43 pm by neospyce

Just wanted to share my thoughts about Vista and the gripers.. The remark in quotation marks are a response to a question that I posed on a forum. Funny, I only asked for a recommendation for a specific HTML editor. So here it is along with my response:

“why don’t you step down to an older, less resource hungry OS?”

My Response:

hmmmz… i guess for the same reason you wouldn’t burn your paycheck or flush $1,000.00 down the toilet. why don’t you step back down to 98SE? i am assuming that you are on resource hugry(ier than 98SE) XP. I am not gonna turntail and run from vista just because software authors and hardware manufacturers are not caught up yet with Vista. people gripe about vista now cuz it uses more memory, but just think about when 1mb was way plenty! Progress and innovation requires changes, stop fighting it and appreciate the advances, hop on the train and keep up with technology. Learn it! Don’t fight it!

P.S. I am in the process of adding 2GB of memory. I was just commenting about Dreamweaver and the present state of my memory.

How To Access True Admin Account In Vista Home Premium

Posted: April 26, 2007 at 7:16 pm by neospyce

Hey, I discovered this method by trial and error. It is my original content and post so please do not copy and/or post it anywhere else. I have already caught one thief. I sat for days and figured this out, so that is a lot of work and frustration to just let someone take it and post as their own. I hope you understand. If you would like to comment as to wether it does or does not work for you, please use my Contact link at the top of this page and provide any and all details about your particular experience.
